Winter_Date

Winter in Kansas City can either be miserable or fantastic depending on the person, or the couple! What better way to spend time than experiencing the season together. Here are some ideas to take full advantage of this Winter in Kansas City and go out on a date. We have ideas for the indoor lovers and the cold embracers, so read on!

1. Mahaffie Stagecoach Stop – Sleigh Ride

mahaffiesleigh-05978651

Snowy Weekends between December-March; 1200 Kansas City Rd., Olathe, KS

This attraction can only happen if we are blessed with snow this season. If we do get a good amount of snow, Mahaffie Stage Coach Stop & Farm Historic Site will offer horse drawn sleigh rides during weekends! Dress warm and cozy up under a buffalo robe during the rides and then warm up in the cellar of the Mahaffie Farmhouse by drinking hot chocolate. Other activities may include maple syrup demonstrations and tour the Mahaffie house. Cost for all activities is $5/adults!

The Kansas City Zoo is usually considered a summer activity, but our beloved zoo is open year round! Popular winter exhibits are with Berlin, the Polar Bear, and the enormous Helzberg Penguin Plaza that houses tons of penguins, warm and cold!

3. Glaze Your Own Pottery

Want to build something this snowy season, but don’t want to get your hands cold? How about painting your own pottery or ceramic this winter! Check out either Paint, Glaze & Fire or Ceramics Café, in Overland Park and Leawood respectively. They are paint-your-own-pottery studios where you select a piece to paint!

4. Go to the LibraryKansas-City-Public-Library-Missouri_3

Woodneath Library, Kansas City Public Library: Plaza, Westport and Waldo Branch & Downtown Public Library.

Avoid the elements even more and cuddle indoors with a great book from or at one of our great public libraries (we do not suggest snuggling in public). The Woodneath public library even has an espresso book machine, where it will bind and print out your book for you! You can always buy your own at Barnes & Noble, but supporting your local library is awesome too!

A very romantic date and in one of the most iconic spots in KC, the Crown Center Ice Terrace, is open for the season. Make sure to go online to see the hours and maybe check out what’s for lunch in the area as well. Don’t worry about shoe size either, they have 15 in men’s and petite for women’s!

Hockey season is here and if you are looking for a sports outing, this is your best bet, especially if the elements outside deter you away from a Chief’s game. Following suit with our other winning teams, the Mavericks have made it to the playoffs the last 5 seasons! The Missouri Mav’s next game at home will be in late January, so buy tickets now and reserve your seat for Kansas City’s hockey team.

7. Take the Polar Plunge2016_polarplunge_logo-greengradient_small

Jan. 30 at Longview Lake locally & Jan. 30 at Shawnee Mission Lake locally

Love the winter and the cold? How about swimming in this weather! Take the Polar Plunge for Special Olympics by raising money and then running into frigid waters. It doesn’t seem like much of a date, but the cause is great. Raise $75 by event day and take your significant other! You can even dress up like the characters from the Titanic movie and reenact the scene! Just don’t draw too much attention to yourself.
